Video game developers are a specialized group of software Developers who have a significant focus on writing programs that operate directly against the video card and Hardware capabilities of the terminal or computer that the software is designed for. Further, video game developers in order to create a realistic experience for the gamers, have to understand physics and natural movement of people or characters in the game. So many video game developers have a significantly deeper background in physics and visual representation of natural objects... a broad set of libraries that have been built up over the last 40 years for video games prepackage a lot of that, and a new video game developer will need to learn how to use them to build new games . This likely requires skills with object-oriented programming languages such as Java and C++.
