What is the work environment like for a Clinical and Counseling Psychologist??

Hi! I'm interested in this career and was wondering what the environment for this job would specifically be like (place, dress, workload, pace)?

Thank you comment icon Dear Kaitlyn, as my professor+ once told me it depends. you to be the counselor, what environment would you want to counsel in ?? you could start a mountain retreat?? or counsel in the subway stations ?? what is your heart telling you ? Why and what would you go into counseling for ? The environment is the people, and to whom you wish to (serve). Because to try to understand human calamity is hard enough. The amount of studying is immense and it depends upon to whom you wish to apply your counseling skills to. get to know God, pray before you start, search your kind heart find your tolerances then decide. You generally get to choose all of that yourself, especially if you're in private practice. You can choose how many clients and which clients you have. You can choose what you wear, where you work, etc. There can be a lot of freedom in this field to make your counseling/psychotherapy practice your own.

It depends on the facility as pschologists work in a range of settings from casual to quit formal. Community mental health centers tend to be more casual and are easire to get a foot in the door, as with offering for an unpaid, school sponsored (part-time) position. Hope you find a site to your liking and interests .

Hi Kaitlyn,

There is no way to say what a typical work environment would be like, because the types are way too varied and numerous to try to list and explain. The main piece of advice I would like to offer is to be aware of the type of environment YOU would like, and seek out jobs that seem to fit. You also have a role to play in shaping a work environment, so use your abilities to help mold the environment into one that more closely suits you, while remembering to keep you colleagues' preferences in mind.

I hope this helps. Take Care.
