Megan’s Answer

Hi Ava to be a pediatrician you would need to get an undergraduate degree with a science Major preferably Bio/chem. After that you would apply to medical school complete 4 years of medical school. Once you graduate from medical school you would apply for pediatric residency which is 3 years long but during residency you do start getting paid a little bit while you are working but still under the direction of a pediatrician.

Megan recommends the following next steps:

Obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Science
Apply to Medical School
Complete Medical School
Apply for a Pediatric Residency
Complete 3 year pediatric Residency

Craig’s Answer

From my general understanding major isn't totally important as long as you get the pre requirements out of the way! I was told it is best to avoid any pre-nursing, pre-doctor, pre-medicine degree because you can screw yourself over if you don't finish your post bachelor's studies!

Also make sure you're in a B.S not B.A program. As a B.A(Bachelor of the arts) focuses on the arts, humanities, linguistics, social science while a B.S(bachelor of science) program focuses more on the STEM fields. For example a B.S in philosophy will be very different from a B.A in philosophy. But if I could do it again I'd major in, double major or minor, custom major in one of the following:
Philosophy
Biology
Health sciences
Sports science
Public health
Emergency medicine/paramedic
Bio chemistry
Psychology with a biology concentration

Biopsychology

Anthropology with a biology concentration

Hope that helps!
