Sara’s Answer

Hi! At the beginning of high school I really struggled with time management but I found some helpful methods that helped me stay on top of my school work and other outside activities. This is what worked for me...
1. Use google calendar! Its helps you keep track of important deadlines and will even give you reminders for daily tasks. It will help you plan your week and make sure you are not scheduling things that overlap and can look to see that you are preparing for upcoming deadlines/ tests. It doesn't take long to set up, and I plan out my schedule weekly, while keeping the things that occur regularly.
2. Set goals for yourself and then prioritize them so if you get overwhelmed you can focus on what matters most and then work your way through other things.
3. I've asked my friends what helped them in managing time. Here are their recommendations.
- Notion
- Excel sheets with all assignments due for the year/ semester.
- Forest app (helps with minimizing distractions from your phone)
- Develop a daily routine (helps with organization and stress)

With your time I recommend focusing on grades while finding a balance of doing things that you enjoy! (such as spending time with family and friends, working out, going on walks...) Personally I think high school is the perfect opportunity to try new things and join clubs so that you can find what you like so that you can maybe continue pursing it in the future. Of course getting a job or volunteering is also very beneficial.

Chirayu’s Answer

Make a schedule and plan out your day, including classes, homework, extracurricular activities, and free time. Prioritize tasks and focus on the most important tasks first and tackle them during your most productive hours. Take breaks and schedule short breaks between tasks to rest your mind and avoid burnout. Eliminate distractions and find a quiet study space, turn off your phone, and avoid social media during study time. Stay organized and use a planner or calendar to keep track of deadlines and upcoming assignments.

Steven’s Answer

The most important things to you should be prioritized high on the list. I presume this will be schoolwork and studying. Make sure that you give yourself time to do those things every school night (or afternoon) and as much time as needed on weekends. Consider if you have a test coming up or assignment that you're working on/due. However, when you first come home from school and on weekends, holidays, and vacations give yourself some time for fun, being alone (if you value that), and family. If you're struggling in a class or classes give more time to studying and less to other things (but still take some time for other things).

Steven recommends the following next steps:

Determine when you want to study and do schoolwork (before or after dinner)
Figure out how much time you will need for each of these on school nights and at least some time one day per weekend, more if a test or assignment is due
Start a schedule with the studying as the first items on it
Add time for fun, family, and perhaps alone time
Check that this looks realistic before implementing it. Modify as needed.

Sallie’s Answer

Hey Anderson, great question! I think first you need to start narrowing down the career paths you would like to pursue. I think this would help you to start choosing electives and after school activities that would help you when applying to colleges, making sure that they are tailored to those careers. Another piece of advice I can give is to get a part time job, even if its just on the weekends. It important to start building skill sets at a young age so when you do finish school, you have both experience and a degree. As for managing your time, make sure to give yourself periods of rest as well. The brain does not absorb information well when its being overexerted so be sure to build time into your schedule to get outside, read a book (if you enjoy reading), meditate, whatever relaxation looks like to you. Don't overload your schedule and put too much on your plate. By following a career path, this should help you to narrow down activities best suited for your career of choice rather than just picking every activity or course available to you
