Heather’s Answer

Most are a 4 yr college degree that I have seen.

I recommend doing a reverse search. Go on LinkedIn or Glassdoor and look up interior design job postings. See what the companies are saying they require in order to higher you. All of them are going to say experience needed..... dont sweat that just research all the qualifications they are asking for. Another option is to find a company that you like/admire that hires interior designers and look over their criteria. Example: Starbucks Interior Designer job postings. Where are they located (what cities), what are the job requirements, and also start networking with people that work there.

These 2 things will give you direction for next steps.

There are different paths you can take to being an interior designer. It requires different combinations of higher education and work experience plus taking and passing your NCIDQ exams (3 total). Each state also has requirements and they vary state to state. The tradition route would be 4 year Bach. Degree from an acredited CIDA college, 2 years of work experience and passing NCIDQ exams.
Check out www.cidq.org/path for other pathsways.

Hellena’s Answer

If you want to be an interior designer, you usually need to go to college and get a bachelor's degree in interior design or something similar. This usually takes about four years if you're studying full-time. Sometimes, you might need to do an internship or gain work experience as part of your degree. After finishing school, many interior designers keep learning to stay updated on new design ideas, building rules, and industry standards. So, becoming an interior designer means finishing a bachelor's degree and maybe doing more training or getting certifications later on.
