Joseph’s Answer

The easiest way to get an application for the military is to determine the branch of service you'd like to join and find their local recruiting office. Be sure to talk this over with your parents and maybe even take them with you when speaking to the recruiter. Good luck and if you choose to volunteer for the military, thank you for your service in advance.

Joseph recommends the following next steps:

determine what branch of the service interests you
talk it over with your parents
find your local recruiting office
talk to the recruiter

ANDI’s Answer

First, decide which branch you're interested in. Then, walk into any recruiting office of that branch and express your desires. This can be done well before you finish school. Let them know what your plans are and what you'd like for your life and your career. They are paid to point you in the right direction and get you set up for success!

Michael’s Answer

Help from a colleague in the military:

1. After degree you'd want to become an officer. You'd want to meet with an officer recruiter.
2. You can do this by going to the branch website or visit a recruiting office.

Alisha’s Answer

Deborah,

I will echo what everyone else has said. You have got to talk to a recruiter, don't wait until your degree is done because the wait time to leave for BOLC (basic officer leaders course) could be a while. Also, do your research on the branches and what job most interests you. It is a very different process for each branch on what job you will get for your career. I was in the Army for 11 years and my job was in the finance world. It was an outstanding experience because I was able to translate those skills into my dream job in the civilian world.

Best of luck in your journey!

Alisha

James’s Answer

Hello there! The type of degree doesn't matter when joining, unless you plan on being a Military Lawyer (JAG.) Determine which branch you want to join. That's the most important question you need to ask yourself. Each branch has their own strengths and weaknesses, their own jobs, and their own culture. You want to join a branch that is a good fit for you, because you can't just put in your two weeks if you're unhappy. It's a serious commitment. I am, however, partial to the Marine Corps.
