david’s Answer

Hello, Cristian,
Being rich does sound nice, but there is a reason only a few are really rich, such as Bill Gates and Elon Musk: getting really rich is very risky. You might earn billions, and you might become destitute. No career will make you rich that includes a paycheck. That is, you need a career where you are the one making all the decisions. That might include getting involved in the stock market managing a hedge fund, or being an inventor of a product that is well received, or being an entrepreneur who invests in projects with high payback. Following the traditional role of securing a job with a paycheck can work, but requires that you reach the pinnacle, becoming a member of the board of directors or chief officer. The personal challenge is that the job to achieve those riches may not interest you. However, I do believe that, if your goal is riches, that you will probably earn more than many others. Good luck in your pursuits.

Amy’s Answer

There are many high-paying careers! It can take years of schooling or none at all. However, something to consider is investing. If you start investing some of what you earn now, it can help make you wealthy in the long run. Also, consider passive income options.

Karen’s Answer

Hi Cristian, that is such a common question that many students have. You can gain success in your career including having a higher salary if you are driven, passionate and willing to put in the work. There is no real one answer to the question you are asking. When looking at your goals to gain financial success in your career journey you want to have an out of the box mindset, be willing to accept failures as a learning experience and keep yourself motivated.

Other things to consider include:

1. Determine what your passions are - what you love doing, things you know you might not like to do and what you would be excited about doing each day.
2. Dig in & learn as much as you can about the careers you are interested in.
3. Reach out to a company that you have interest in, ask if you can do an internship, get set up with a career coach or just spend some time interviewing someone in the role you are striving for to learn more about how they find success.

Be patient. Success doesn't come overnight for anyone!

Best of luck!

Good afternoon Cristian,

This is a diffucult question to answer however, the highest paying base salaries you will find in the medical space. For example Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, orthodontists, and other similar spaces. As noted in a previous response, retail management can bring high salaris as well and include bonus, profit sharing, and other benefits. Sales is a great space to consider especially if you are a go getter who is passionate about what you are selling. I am providing multiple examples because you can make money in many different spaces. The sky can truly be the limit depending on where you end up. My advise to you is, create goals, build a network of successful people, learn as much as you can, and find something that you truly love. The more you enjoy what you are doing, typically the easier it is to find those successful opportunities resulting in more money. Good luck, and enjoy the experiences.

Mary’s Answer

Professional salespeople often make good money. This career is best suited for you if you enjoy meeting and interacting with people and you are charismatic, energetic and free to travel.

Something else to consider, though, is that many people say "do what you love and the money will follow". I've found this to be true in my career. If you are passionate about your work, you are more likely to be successful and have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and earn more.

Mary recommends the following next steps:

Interview a few people who make good money and get a perspective on how they got to their current positions.
Take a career interest test to determine what fields are a good choice for you.

Doug’s Answer

The dull unglamorous industry is where the money is. Sell life insurance, sell bonds, generate sales.

Avoid the glamour industries like music, fashion, film. The top 0.01% make it huge, but 98% are suffering for their art.

Doug’s Answer

In every business there is a ‘cost center’ and a profit center’.

The cost center are the workers, the project managers, the producers, the creatives. The problem with this is that there’s always someone who will do it cheaper.

The profit center is where the income comes from. It’s the sales people, the executives who keep the big clients spending. The more revenue you bring in, the more you earn. Conversely, if you’re not bringing any revenue in, you’re out!

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. Many students have the same question.
The most important is you do the work good, you can advance your career and earn good salary regardless of the career. How do you do the work good? You have to identify a career you have interest.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about your interest and favorite subjects and identify the related careers
e.g. If you are interested in Maths, would you like to be an accountant, banker, engineer, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
If you are interested in Music, would you like to be a singer, music composer, musician, music teacher, music producer, etc.
2. Find our more on these careers
3. Speak to someone who are working on these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in the college
Having said that, you also would need to setup your career goals with plans how to advance your career. You may also need to keep your industry knowledge up to date and attend courses to advance your knowledge from time to time.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Sambodhi’s Answer

In today's dynamic world, the most fruitful method to earn wealth hinges on "equity appreciation" - the rise in value of shares, rather than relying solely on a regular income. Here are three promising career paths that can lead you towards this goal, arranged in descending order of risk:

1. Launch your own enterprise, where you hold the majority of the equity. This path allows you to be in control and reap the rewards of your hard work.
2. Become part of a budding start-up. Here, you'll receive a fair percentage of equity, offering you a chance to grow alongside the company.
3. Secure a role in private equity or venture capital. This allows you to invest in remarkable companies and patiently await your "carry", or profit share.

Remember, the journey might be challenging, but the rewards are worth it. So, take a leap of faith and embrace the opportunity to build your wealth through equity appreciation.
