Keyston’s Answer

I started working right out of high school, focusing on building a career through experience and hard work. Age isn't the main concern; it's about finding opportunities that fit your skills and aspirations. If you're motivated and dedicated, you can succeed at any point in life.

When should you find a job?
As a rule, if you can worry less about when you should get a job and more on when you need it, you ought to be fine. At this point, ask yourself:
Do you need to get a job, or are circumstances well enough that you can do without and not incur debt? When will you need to afford something? Are you going to get something or go somewhere? Do you have a current amount of money saved? Do you have a decent amount set aside for emergencies? When do you plan to leave for your future endeavors? How much do you need to get to afford it?
If you have a plan that would require more than you have now, probably a good idea to get a job and start saving. Or, if you don't have any in the near future, but you are not sure if you are going to be ready for when you do, get a job and start saving.
Most importantly, whether or not you get a job, live within your paycheck. Don't spend money you don't have. Set aside a bit of what you have for emergencies, and make sure you cover bills first.
Now, do you need a job?

Shane’s Answer

Well, I see a difference between a job versus a career.

Jobs are great for building a work history, for saving money towards a goal, and for challenging yourself with some responsibility.

I see a career as something that you want to do long term, that aligns with your interests/passions, that utilizes your skill/ability, and that you want to invest time in.

Maame Afua’s Answer

Hi Jaida, hope you're well. In response to your query, don't rush into job hunting. The job market is currently quite turbulent. Your career ambitions and expectations should guide your research into your desired field. There's no age limit for job hunting, but don't feel pressured to find a job unless it's urgent. Instead, focus on finding a job that you think you'd excel at and enjoy. If you need to take courses to master it, do so until you're ready to enter the job market. It's also a good idea to find a mentor through LinkedIn or other resources in your chosen field. They can help you break into your specialty, and might even be the key to landing your dream job.
