Afrad’s Answer

Having two young children, my quiet moments are few and far between, which has subsequently altered my hobbies. Currently, I am deeply engrossed in do-it-yourself projects, encompassing areas like woodworking, plumbing, and electrical tasks. The joy of crafting something tangible with my own hands is truly gratifying. If you're curious to learn, there's an abundance of informative videos on platforms like YouTube and TikTok.

Maintaining self-discipline and consistency can be challenging, but it's certainly achievable. Taking your gym endeavor as an example, it's crucial to have a clear vision. What's your ultimate fitness goal? Once you define it, keep your focus unwavering. Here are a few straightforward strategies I utilize:

1. Draw inspiration from motivational workout videos of professionals. How did they achieve their goals? I recommend watching videos of Arnold Schwarzenegger and The Rock on YouTube. There are numerous other inspiring figures you can discover as well.
2. Develop a workout plan - don't just arrive at the gym and randomly select exercises.
3. If feasible, train with a partner - someone who can provide that extra nudge when you require it.
4. Designate rest days - this is essential to prevent exhaustion.

I hope you find these tips beneficial. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!

Hello Adnane,

Let me share with you what I do to remain disciplined and still motivated through my hobbies. And trust me, they will be helpful for you.

The most important thing is to find and do the hobbies you love.
Me, I love walking, playing football with my friends and singing.
I fixed an everyday program for work and study, and within my program, I set time to take rest, activities and hobbies.
So, keep in mind that you should have a schedule, where and when you work and rest. Be organized, find your hobbies and practice them

God bless bless you Adnane, enjoy your hobbies!

I think the easiest way to stay consistent is to find something that you enjoy doing. My favorite exercise is running. I don't always enjoy it but it helps me make goals for myself. Goals of how often I run, how fast, how far. I like to do fun 5k runs and collect cool medals. I run with music to make it more enjoyable. I run with my dog to make it more enjoyable. I run with others to help push me. There are so many ways to motivate yourself.

Some motivation helpers:
Music- make a playlist that pumps you up
Friends- have someone who helps hold you accountable
Goals- give yourself small goals to work on and celebrate when you reach them

I hope this helps!

The day just seems to shine a little brighter when we've got something exciting to look forward to, doesn't it? And the fun part is, these activities can become even more delightful if we take a moment to plan them out. Depending on what tickles your fancy, it can be pretty straightforward to figure out the best time of the day or week to dive into your favorite hobby.

As for me, I'm a big fan of a wide range of hobbies, with a hearty mix of interests that I regularly find joy in. Sure, I love to get lost in a good book, participate in various group activities, play games, and engage in sports, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be working out. More specifically, I'm all about strength training. The gym may not be my only playground, but it holds a special place in my heart. It's my way of taking care of my health and staying fit. You'll find me there, pumping iron, three days a week.

Sure! If you're looking for an example of how to express your enjoyment of a hobby, here's one:

"I really enjoy reading—it's like stepping into different worlds without leaving my chair. The way words come together to create vivid imagery and emotions is truly captivating. I love getting lost in a good book and finding myself engrossed in the characters' journeys. It's a wonderful way for me to unwind and expand my knowledge. Have you ever found a book that made you feel that way?"

My hobbies are extremely varied, but definitely important to me so I can maintain a life outside work! The important thing for staying disciplined with activities outside of school and work is to make a list of what's important and what your goals are. Do things with intention even if they are for fun. If you like to read fantasy, choose a book or join a book club that focuses on fantasy and maybe science fiction so you're more likely to actually finish the book.

Working out/going to the gym requires two factors: What's your goal, and what do you like to do? For example, if you want to increase muscle bulk, but you love running, you need to figure out how to fit both in (ie, warming up with a run holding light weights, then going into a weight routine, cooling off with a walk with light weights). It's really easy to not exercise if it gets boring, so find ways to keep it interesting (switch up focus areas, running versus core work versus swimming, etc). Spend the time that feels right for you, whether that is 30 minutes a day or and hour every three days, and stick to it.

An easy way to stay consistent is to set general goals rather than specific ones. Aim to work out a certain amount each week, and depending on your week, you have the flexibility to reach the week goal day by day. If you have a need for a certain weight to lift or a time to run a mile, set checkpoint goals rather than one big, specific time/weight. You'll feel more motivated by the little wins!

Mary’s Answer

Some might think it trite to consider hobbies. Contrary to what it might seem, hobbies are very important to life and restoring oneself! They help us grow as individuals too.
I love reading. When much younger, I kept a card on every book I read, with comments about how I thought about each book. I took a speed reading course. I read nightly with my father at the kitchen table . I lay in the hammock under the willow tree and read some more. I read before going to bed.
I love sewing. I would find any books on sewing and quilting to soak in information and ideas. I worked part time at a fabric store, and learned about all types of fabric. I took courses on sewing clothes. I attended quilting conferences, and took classes with instructors I admired. I met up with friends to sew and visit. I've made patriotic pins after 9/11 , and gave the profits to a charitable group. I showed coworkers Christmas stockings I had made, and sold enough to buy another sewing machine. I hunted for a featherweight sewing machine, acquired "cousins" of one, and made a lot of my own clothes. I made masks during the pandemic and taught a friend to sew.
I was always interested in healthy foods. I've read what I can on the subject. I was curious enough to visit the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in NYC. I completed the course, having attended sessions with thousands of people from around the world to become a holistic health advisor.
I enjoyed taking Spanish in High School. One of my first jobs was at Dunkin Donuts in the Puerto Rican section of town. I learned more Spanish from my customers. When going places ,I would practice Spanish. I've been places where no one speaks English and had fun. I succeed speaking with most Spanish speaking folks.
Perhaps the best advice is delve in. If you are interested in the subject, it will keep you motivated.
Best wishes!

Rose’s Answer

My key to consistency is setting an goal of a set of small goals working towards an over all goal. I talked about going to the gym consistently. Think about why you want to go to the gym, feel better? Build strength ? Look great for the summer? Use that as a motivation for get up and get to the gym. Make a schedule, start small, 1-2 days a week. 20-30 minutes at first. Increase your gym sessions over time. Before you know it you will be in the gym 4 times a week getting better faster and stronger everyday!!!

Suzanne’s Answer

I'm one of those people who doesn't have any hobbies. If there's an activity you'd like to do -- like going to the gym -- I encourage you to set aside XX minutes per day to dedicate to it. What's the worst that happens? You hate those XX minutes every day? In my experience, I'll either come to enjoy it or I won't. But, I can guarantee you that I won't enjoy it those first several days or even weeks. It requires commitment to at least try it out for a set amount of time, then decide whether it's right for you to continue or not.
