Hi! My husband has been a journalist for 10+ years and I've dabbled in it. It's a very wide field, you can specialize in many things. News, entertainment, reviews, etc. It's fairly easy to get a start in. Many websites are looking for freelance journalists where you get paid usually per article written. Some people are able to make great careers out of it and work for large organizations such as Dotdash Meredith, Forbes, or Yahoo.
The field is very deadline-focused. You have to be able to turn around a certain amount of articles in a certain amount of time. You need to be able to quickly take on breaking news as it happens, even if you work in the entertainment industry. You work with very little supervision, but you have to be open to feedback from editors to be able to adjust your writing style based on what management wants.
Freelance/contract work isn't always reliable, though it gives you a lot of flexibility in your lifestyle. Specializing in one thing as a journalist is what will really set you apart. For example, making a career out of the news industry will look better to employers that if you've written about video games for one year, technology for another, and news for a third.
Hope that helps!

There are different types of journalism: Media, investigative, photo and so on. So your job details are related to the type of journalism you will choose.
What refers to the financial part, if you become a well-known journalist and write articles for famous newspapers and magazines, your salary will be considerably high.
