Hello Samy,

In general, journalists shed a light on different events, write articles/reports/posts about the most important and socially interesting happenings, and so on.
There are different types of journalism: Media, investigative, photo and so on. So your job details are related to the type of journalism you will choose.
What refers to the financial part, if you become a well-known journalist and write articles for famous newspapers and magazines, your salary will be considerably high.

Talia’s Answer

Hi! My husband has been a journalist for 10+ years and I've dabbled in it. It's a very wide field, you can specialize in many things. News, entertainment, reviews, etc. It's fairly easy to get a start in. Many websites are looking for freelance journalists where you get paid usually per article written. Some people are able to make great careers out of it and work for large organizations such as Dotdash Meredith, Forbes, or Yahoo.

The field is very deadline-focused. You have to be able to turn around a certain amount of articles in a certain amount of time. You need to be able to quickly take on breaking news as it happens, even if you work in the entertainment industry. You work with very little supervision, but you have to be open to feedback from editors to be able to adjust your writing style based on what management wants.

Freelance/contract work isn't always reliable, though it gives you a lot of flexibility in your lifestyle. Specializing in one thing as a journalist is what will really set you apart. For example, making a career out of the news industry will look better to employers that if you've written about video games for one year, technology for another, and news for a third.

Hope that helps!

Thank you comment icon What do you want to write about? Law? National news? Business? Talia Roepel
Thank you comment icon This is a very good question 😅 I'm 18 years old so I have a tiny experience, I can't say law because this will be my first year . Maybe about history and connection it with present " wars , public relations between countries and celebrities in the past and the present like " Malcolm X , Queen Elizabeth||, and others. Samy
Thank you comment icon I forgot 3 more things YouTube and social media scripts, short stories and posts Samy
Thank you comment icon That is great! I would recommend beginning by doing job searches on Indeed or LinkedIn using the search term "freelance journalist" and look for remote options. Many of those jobs are seeking entry-level people and it will be a great way to get started. Talia Roepel
