Hello Helena!

I was a nursing assistant for 2.5 years before becoming a nurse. I can tell you that hospitals and nursing homes are in great need of good nursing assistants. If you are willing to work my advice is apply! You don't need to spend money on a special course. You can be a nursing assistant in adults or pediatrics. You can work in a hospital or nursing home. I would just look up hospitals or nursing homes in your area and apply. Hospitals may be a little more flexible with scheduling because they'll have a bigger staffing pool to choose from. Nursing homes are also hurting for people and it is very good experience. Let them tell you if you're not qualified. Just put yourself out there..you can do it! I wish you well!

Good morning. Volunteering is always a great way to expand your CV. If you reach out to hospitals volunteer department they will be happy to help you with this. Working any job also helps. Working shows maturity and responsibility. It doesn’t really matter what the job is but if you take it seriously it will improve your CV drastically. Good luck!

James Constantine’s Answer

Hi Helena,

If you're interested in becoming a nursing assistant, a simple Google search can provide you with a wealth of information. Try searching for "nursing assistant studies" or "preliminary studies for nurse assistants". This can even include high school subjects that could prepare you for this career path. Make sure to focus on accreditations within Palmer, Alaska!

You might also want to look for training institutions or universities close to Palmer, Alaska with reputable courses. It's a lot easier these days with Google Search, compared to my university days when we had to rely on regional phone books or public libraries.

For instance, a Google search for "nurses assistant course Palmer Alaska" provides links to the following institutions:

Near Palmer
https://mat-sucna.com/
https://cnatraininghelp.com/cna-classes/cna-training-in-alaska/

These could be a great starting point for you. Good luck!

Best regards,
Jim

If you’ve attended a CNA program, they may have a placement assistance program. Networking is important. If you are interested in working in a clinic, that really is it’s own specialty. The workflow is different than working in a long term care facility or a hospital. If there is a particular clinic you would like to join, request an appointment with the clinic manager to introduce yourself and to ask for the skills they are seeking.

I would definitely recommend a course/program for CNA. This will definitely give you the skills that you will need and the confidence to perform those skills.
