You apply to nursing school. You can go to a community college or a university. The nursing program does have prerequisite courses, what that means is there are certain classes you have to take before getting into the main nursing courses. Example, statistics, chemistry, your basic courses. There is a shortage of nursing professors so there usually is a limit each semester to how many students are accepted into nursing program. Now promotion, you can receive more education and progress in your field from an RN ( associate degree) to BSN (bachelor degree) : the bachelor degree opens opportunities in management, etc. Progessing to a Master degree allows you to teach nursing school, become a Nurse Practitioner, etc. So you can promote in that manner!

Hello, Jajuanae !

What a fascinating question ! I am impressed with your curiosity about the filed of nursing and hopefully I can offer some advice about the subject.

There are no "requirements" for nurses to be offered a promotion. People in various careers are offered promotions for all different reasons and there are some things that you can consider to recognize if and when you may have the chance of being promoted. Each company has different circumstances that provide opportunities for promoting their staff and there's no one circumstance across the board that leads to it.

People who get promoted are very well liked by their manager. They interact with their co-workers and manager in an effective way and are able to work as a team as well as independently. This is evaluated by the employees' manager on the job. If you can work well with everyone, you could probably handle working with them while you are in a higher position. If you are trusting and supportive among your co-workers and they enjoy working with you, this is surely a plus for a promotion as your manager will observe this.

If it is a promotion as a nurse that you aspire to, you can sharpen your communication skills and that goes for every field of work, not just nursing. Your promotion may require you to write large reports, e-mails to employees and administrators, and this includes understanding what you are composing and how to compose it. After your promotion at any job, you may be required to do public speaking presentations. You will need to feel comfortable leading meetings, In-Services possibly for RNs, trainings and presentations directed at administration. For this reason, I suggest honing your communication skills and this will play a part in the manager seeing that you are ready and able to go further in your career.

In addition, you can regularly update and sharpen your nursing skills and volunteer for any on the job projects that may come up. This will help you to stand out and possibly an offer for a promotion will come your way. But you must be sure you are 100% ready for a promotion before you accept the offer.

I hope this has helped and I wish you all the best !
