Internships are usually aligned with your strengths, education and experience. You should pursue an intership that matches your interests and could potentially lead to a permanent position after you graduate from school. Internships are in high demand so it's important you apply early!! My daughter's boyfriend applied for his Legal internship one year in advance!! Also network, network, network to get your internship. Ask your friends, you friends' parents, your parents' friends, etc. about internship opportunities at their places of employment. I would first think about what kinds of industries, companies, etc. are interesting to you - this will help narrow your search so you aren't casting so wide a net that you overwhelm yourself.
Secondly, take a look at your school's career resources. Do they have a career portal with internship listings? Peruse through the site! Do they have advisors you can schedule time with? Schedule a meeting!
Your professors can also be a great resource as you think about different options for a future internship - if you haven't already, take advantage of office hours if your professors offer them, particularly if there's a subject/course that is of strong interest to you.
Many companies will offer summer internships, others year-round, or throughout semester - don't be afraid to explore any/all of these options as you figure out where you'd like to be, and just as importantly what will work best with your schedule. As you interview for the internships, remember that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Do you like the company's work and mission? Will they help nurture your growth and teach you skills that you're interested in developing?
