What is the best major in college? What is the easiest?

Hey I'm a high school student soon to be going to college in a few years. I have no idea what to do with my life, or what major to choose. I would like to know your opinion on what is the best major, it can be most fun, most interesting, or highest paying. Also, what is the easiest? I know it is not wise to just choose the easiest path in life. However, if I graduate from High school and do not know what major to pick I will probably pick the one I feel is easiest. #college #school #high-school #majors

Hi Ian,

I am afraid there is no exact answer to your question! We cannot tell you the best major because for each person it is different. The important thing is to find a major that fits you. There are many assessments out there to help you decide what major to explore. It is okay to enter college undecided, your academic advisors will provide you the time and resources to explore courses and majors that you may find interesting. I would suggest researching if a college or university near you provides free career advising to the community, some do! Tell them your concerns and someone maybe able to provide you with an assessment and some additional resources. You can find assessments online that help to expand your knowledge on majors that fit your interests and skills, but you may have to pay for them. I hope that helps you and good luck.

Collegeboard.org is a great resource for this! I poured through the pages of universities all over the U.S. when I was a senior in high school. Collegeboard was my go-to site! They put all of the information in one place and it is very easy to use. They even have various filters you can apply to see only colleges that have programs you are interested. To determine academic rigor, look at the admissions requirements, G.P.A. of past admitted applicants, SAT/ACT scores, class rank etc. This will give you an idea of what scores and grades you need to be accepted. However, don't be discouraged your application will be reviewed based on the full picture! College-board will help you get an idea of what is most important to the specific school you are applying to.

This professional recommends the following next steps:

 • Chat with your Guidance Counselor
 • Create a Collegeboard.org account
 • Start using CollegeBoard as a resource to look up schools.
