I think college can expose you to more people and worldview points which makes us all more compassionate people and in turn makes the world better. It can also teach us to use logic, which helps us with really difficult situations or decisions. You will learn to define success on your own terms over time, but not by going to college itself. Don't pressure yourself to have it all figured out. I am 30, successful, but still do not have it figured out and as you get older you will learn to be okay with that. Just show up for yourself and do things for you and ask for help even when it feels hard to ask for it- in any area of life.
There are plenty of successful people who don't have degrees, but it just depends on the general field you want to go into. If you are unsure then I recommend community college while you figure it out and you continue to a university from there or get a certificate.

Sophie, in today's climate, your question is more important than ever. Many young people like yourself are questioning whether college is a good investment financially. Like Kara suggested there are so many things to learn while at a school of higher learning, but I believe you can learn those at a trade school, technical school, or junior college as well.
I do know several of my clients who did not get a degree from a college and have regretted it because they feel inferior in some ways or they have been passed over for promotions due to no college degree. I also know many people have become successful through their own resources and form their own businesses. Which ever route you choose, there will be a learning curve and a maturing curve that will be important no matter how you get it.
I went the college route and have not regretted it. It gave me time to educate myself in my vocation of choice. It gave me the degree to apply for my license. Some careers like electrician or plumber do not require college degrees but they do require licensure and testing. So the most important question to ask is what career path is best for you and how do you get there.
