How to start designing?
Hi, I'm an 8th grader and looking for a school that allows me to work on something that I love which is designing.

Designing is such a creative field of work and you get to stand back and look at the finished product, so it's very exciting no matter what niche of design you want to go into ! Since you're in the 8th grade right now, something tells me that you need not look any further than your own backyard.
Are you taking an art class right now ? That would be a good start. Something like Commercial Art if they offer it now or at your high school would be fantastic because you get to design various things. I took it in 10th grade and it was fun designing a record album cover, a cereal box, and various things. It gives you a variety of things to create. So you probably have the resources at you fingertips right now without having to change schools. If not, there are some options.
There is a link below for information about some art classes in CT. Any art class that you take will be beneficial and help you sharpen and learn new techniques and discover your skills. The link does have classes for people your age but you will have to connect with the various places and ask specific information. While you take instruction, you will discover exactly what you want to design and my advice is to try not to limit yourself. Try everything in the art world. Keep a portfolio of everything you create.
There is an On Line design course for teens at Teens Computer School. I left a link below for you. Upon completion you receive a certificate. Go to their E-Learning link at the top of the page for the information. This could be a good opportunity for you.
When you get to high school, take as many art classes as possible, you don't need to go to a special school just yet. It would benefit you to take a variety of art classes to get experience in all types of art and design. Branch out. Try everything. After high school, you can go to college as an art or design major or to a specialized design school.
So keep doing what you're doing now, watch a lot of design and art videos, take as much art as you can now and in high school and decide what you'd like to do from there. It sounds very exciting !
