Kate’s Answer

There are many great colleges in the east coast. To decide which are the best college for you, you need to nail down what you are looking for.

  • What majors are you looking into?
  • Is there a certain profession you would like to enter after college?
  • While you should not completely rule out a college if you think it is too expensive, you should apply to colleges that have various tuition. You might get scholarships and financial aid to assist at a more expensive school but you do not want to take out too many loans to go to the very best school and graduate with a lot of debt.

Patrice’s Answer

You can do an internet search for Barron's Guide or the US News ranking of schools, but it really depends on what you want to do as to which schools would be best for you. Schools tend to be well known for particular things, so you would not want to go to Harvard University to become an auto mechanic, for example, but Harvard might be a good choice if you want to become a lawyer. Also, some people learn better in some ways than others, so you might also want to determine whether any school you are interested in has programs that work well for the way you learn (are you better with traditional classroom learning, online computer-based learning, do you need special programs such as assistive learning due to a hearing impairment, etc.?). Make sure to look for items other than just the school's reputation for traditional learning if there are other items that may apply to you.

You could do a google search for this question. and it would give you a top 50 list ... https://thestacker.com/stories/2189/50-best-colleges-east-coast

I think having a list is a good place to start. It gives you an idea of different schools out there and learn about each that may give you inspiration . If there is something that catches your eye. Learn more about the programs it offers and what it takes (GPA, application, SAT scores) to get in. Then you inspire to reach that goal, inspire to apply for scholarships, or take campus tour.

Or you can approach it in a different manner, and target your personal criteria. If you gifted with skill in music , dance, art - you could narrow your ideal schools that offer programs in your desired art .

There are also other factors/challenges that graduates may consider - tuition fees, cost of living, average grades --- that may limit your school choices.

A very popular option is to opt for Junior college for general requirements and obtain a AA that will allow you to transfer to the school that you want to major in. you save on cost of tuition for general courses.
