Hello, Stephanie !

In order to find a Financial Technology Internship, the Handshake Blog has some good information on how to do so. I have left the link below for you.

I would also suggest that you register at Linked In and Indeed and set your notifications for what you are seeking. Possible opportunities will come to you in your e-mail in box. Another way to discover what you want is by asking your Dean of your major Dept. or any of the staff or professors. They may know of some internships particularly for students attending the school. Network as much as you can. Consider researching to see if there are any remote on line opportunities for an internship, too.

I hope that this was a bit of help and I wish you all the best !

Michelle recommends the following next steps:

I agree that it would be great to connect with your professors. Another great idea would be to look into becoming a member of professional organizations which sometime have student pricing and the membership might be discounted. Once you become a member, you will get notices about training and networking events that the organization hosts and you can meet other people and start sharing that your interested in an internship. Some professional organizations to start researching are ISACA and Association For Financial Professionals (AFP).

Hello Stephanie!

I appreciate your curiosity! Here's a practical approach to get started: Begin by engaging in dialogues with individuals who are already in the industry. Your professors could be a great resource - they might have industry contacts who would be open to a brief chat with you. Also, don't forget to explore any opportunities that your career center might have to offer.

If there's a specific role or company that catches your eye, LinkedIn can be a powerful tool. Try to find a mutual connection who can introduce you to the relevant person in that company. Alternatively, you can locate their contact details on LinkedIn (or other platforms) and reach out directly. Propose a short, 15-30 minute discussion where you can inquire about the industry and the day-to-day aspects of the job.

Speaking directly with someone in a role you're interested in can offer invaluable insights that you might not find elsewhere. Creating such connections can help you gather essential information for your career decisions and could even pave the way for future opportunities!

Best of luck on your career path!

Warm regards,
Deborah

Hi Stephanie!

Thank you for asking this question! I suggest starting by having conversations with people in the industry. You can talk to your professors to see if they have any connections in the industry that would be willing you have a short discussion with you or check with opportunities that are open via your career center. If there is a position or company you are interested in, leverage LinkedIn and try to find a "warm" connection and have them introduce you to the person at that company. You can also find their contact information on LinkedIn (or elsewhere) and send them an email asking for a 15-30 minute conversation where you can ask them some question about the industry and day-to-day of the job.

There is something incredibly valuable in speaking with someone who is somewhere you would like to go and it provides a level of insight you may not be able to get elsewhere. Building connections like this will help you gather the information you need to help you make some career decisions and it might even open doors for future opportunities!

Good luck on your career journey!

All the best,
Deborah

Getting an internship in the FinTech (Financial Technology) industry can be an excellent way to gain experience, expand your network, and potentially launch your career. Here are some steps to consider:

1. **Education and Skills**: Pursue relevant coursework in finance, computer science, data science, or a related field. Familiarize yourself with programming languages commonly used in the industry, such as Python, R, or JavaScript. Understanding blockchain technology, machine learning, and data analysis can also be beneficial.

2. **Networking**: Attend FinTech events, conferences, and meetups to connect with industry professionals. Join FinTech groups on LinkedIn and participate in online discussions. Networking can often lead to opportunities not advertised publicly.

3. **Online Presence**: Build a strong online presence. This can include a professional LinkedIn profile, a GitHub account showcasing your coding projects, or a personal website. Make sure to highlight any relevant skills, coursework, or projects.

4. **Research Companies**: Identify FinTech companies that interest you. Learn about their products, culture, and internship opportunities. Tailor your application and cover letter to each company's specific needs and values.

5. **Apply**: Apply to internships through company websites, job boards, and career services at your university. Remember to tailor your resume and cover letter to each specific role.

6. **Prepare for Interviews**: If you land an interview, prepare thoroughly. Understand the company's products and services, practice common interview questions, and be ready to demonstrate your interest in FinTech and the skills you bring.

7. **Follow Up**: After applying or interviewing, follow up with a thank-you note expressing your continued interest in the role.

Remember, persistence is key. If you don't land an internship immediately, keep improving your skills, expanding your network, and applying. Good luck!

Ryan’s Answer

Hi Stephanie!

My name is Ryan and I am a graduate from Kennesaw State University in Finance! At KSU, I made use of Handshake to find every internship and job I've had! I also attended the KSU Cole's College of Business Career Fairs each semester when they were held. I highly recommend you make use of these two resources for FinTech and Finance career opportunities! FinTech is a consistently growing field and I am certain more and more companies are placing internship and entry level opportunities each day on the university job boards such as Handshake.

I received many interview opportunities from the career fairs and ultimately found my career path in supply chain and analysis via Handshake! I would advise you reach out to your advisor and speak with them on these resources and any others they may have added since I've left the university!

All the best!
Ryan

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for posing this question. I would recommend you to talk to people who are your professors and your career counselor about potential opportunities at first, but also professionals within the FinTech field about internship opportunities. There are lots of opportunities online on websites such as LinkedIn and other web resources that might help you find internships. All you need to do is to apply! Reaching out to prospective employers and other professionals to talk about your interest is also a good idea to start!

Best of luck!

Best regards,

Johan
