Rob’s Answer

Physical strength is not a trait you need to a business manager. You will need mental toughness in order to deal with the day to day tasks but believe in yourself and the skills you already have got you to this position. It is very important to concentrate on things you are good at and keep improving these skills.

Patrick’s Answer

Hello Marco, for most business managers the challenges will mostly be mental, but there are definitely some physical aspects to it. The best managers will be familiar with and capable of doing the jobs of the people below them, so you can expect to occasionally jump into the line-level work that your company does. For me, the biggest physical challenge I faced as a manager was opening up a business, where for a period of about 4 months I walked 20,000 steps per day, lifted and moved furniture and fixtures, and worked around 90 hours per week. This made for some very tough moments having the stamina to get up in the morning, to keep going when my feet and knees hurt, to persevere. But this was all temporary and things return to normal once business levels settle into the normal pattern. Best of luck in your future!

Melissa’s Answer

Hello, Marco. It will really depend on the line of work you pursue. The best leaders, lead by example. So if you are working on a construction job site and need to show employees how to do a task, physical aptitude may be needed. However, the challenges faced by many business managers is mostly mental strength. You will definitely need to have a strong mental capacity as you will face many tough challenges in your career from managing multiple people with different personalities to making tough decisions that may have different impacts.

Morgan’s Answer

It is more important to be mentally strong when becoming a business manager. Maintaining your physical health is important but it’s usually not a requirement for this career field. Having resilience, persevering through tough moments, and empowering your team to be the best they can be will serve you well!

Robert’s Answer

Leading by example is crucial. When you support your words with actions and understanding, you earn your employees' trust. Empathy is vital too. Whether it's metaphorically or literally picking up a shovel to tackle tough situations, your staff will recognize and appreciate your effort. They'll see that you understand their challenges. Consistent strength of character is the foundation of effective leadership.

Hey Michael, I hope you’re doing well. To be completely honesty, being physically strong is not a requirement but it really depends on the industry you’re serving. Review what is the most important skill you need for the job and become the best at it. Work on your consistency and performance and the rest will come as you move forward.
