Learn how to cook with practice. But you'll need to demonstrate some interest beforehand, so while you won't be required to be a master chef you will be expected to learn and pick up techniques on your own as a starting point.
A good place to start is to make yourself familiar with the types of equipment that are around a kitchen, how to use them, and then some basic cooking techniques for the type of cooking you aspire to be a professional in.

To prepare yourself as a chef, it’s helpful to start cooking at home to build basic skills, but you don’t need to be an expert right away. Many chefs learn through practice, whether by attending culinary school or working in a kitchen as a beginner. Gaining experience in different kitchen roles can also be beneficial, as it helps you understand the various aspects of running a kitchen. Passion and a willingness to learn are key!
