Well, let's dive into this. It's not a straightforward answer, you see. The majority of my schoolmates hailed from families with a doctor in the mix. Besides that, they had been assisted by a chiropractor at some point, and there were all sorts of tales about that. My own experience is a bit different, as it was my brother who was aided and spared from back surgery. This was quite remarkable to me, a college student at the time, unsure of my future direction. All I knew was that I wanted to be my own boss.
I considered teaching, which is indeed a noble profession. However, most self-employment opportunities seemed to involve starting a business. So, the idea of becoming a doctor appealed to me. Sure, you could work in a large clinic, but there's a lot of autonomy too. You could even set up your own clinic if you have an entrepreneurial spirit. This seemed like a good fit for me, and I knew it would provide a better income.
But there's more to it than that. You also need to have a genuine desire to help people, and even enjoy being around them. It's tough to pinpoint what else factored into my decision, but it was just a tad different from most.

Hey George,
Choosing to become a doctor is often driven by a deep desire to help people and make a difference in their lives. Many people are drawn to the medical field because they are passionate about science, healthcare, and problem-solving. Doctors have the unique ability to heal, support, and guide patients through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
For many, the inspiration to pursue medicine comes from personal experiences, such as seeing a family member receive life-changing care or being inspired by a mentor who works in healthcare. The journey to becoming a doctor is long and demanding, but the ability to positively impact lives, continually learn, and be a part of groundbreaking medical advancements makes it worth it for those who are truly passionate.
If being a doctor is your dream, focus on building a strong foundation in science and math during high school, and look for opportunities to shadow doctors or volunteer in healthcare settings to gain hands-on experience. Keep your passion alive by staying curious and learning about different medical fields!
