Hi Destyni, I've been to Italy and Spain and those are both beautiful spots! If you like more of a big city feel, Rome and Madrid are both great spots. If you like more of a relaxed vibe, you'll enjoy Florence and Cordoba.

Have fun!

Hi Destyni! I would start by focusing on what you would like to get out of your travel experience. Do you like a particular time of cuisine, fashion, outdoors activities? Weather also plays a part in what you decide. Good luck and share your destination with us!

Since you are in Arizona, Destyni, an obvious choice might be a beach town in Mexico or an artsy place such as San Miguel de Allende. And Lake Atitlan in Guatemala is a favorite of mine as a travel photographer.

But thinking a bit out of the box, I suggest looking into taking a discounted cruise from Miami or a California port . Now don't just assume cruise ships are only for retirees. Several of them attract younger cruisers with rock walls, basketball courts, water slides, and other youthful activities. And don't assume all of the college age cruisers are traveling with their parents. I've met numerous independent young travelers on ships often when seated at a group table for meals. Just ask to be seated with some young people, but don't avoid older cruisers as well. Some of us well-travelled old folks have interesting tales to tell.

I might add that a cruise is a great way to visit several countries to get at least a glimpse of what each has to offer. And since you are probably sailing on a budget, don't sign up for the expensive shore excursions offered by the cruise line. You can usually find spontaneous groups forming at the dock negotiating prices with a local tour guide. And you will probably be welcome to join the group since filling a guide's van keeps the price lower for everyone.

Bon voyage!

Dennis recommends the following next steps:

Research cruises giving discounts, some with last minute sailings deeply discounted, at www.VacationsToGo.com or google "cruise deals." To check out descriptions of cruise ships and references by previous passengers, go to www.CruiseCritic.com.
