Hi, Rohit. Based on the tags in your question, I think you are focusing on the difference between a BS in Accounting versus a BA in Accounting (my apologies if my interpretation is incorrect). To be honest, there probably isn't a very significant difference between the two. The university I attended issues a BS in Accountancy. However, one of the chairs of the Accountancy program felt that accounting is more closely akin to an art than a science. Although accounting does operate under frameworks (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, International Financial Reporting Standards) there is considerable gray area when applying those frameworks to the actual business world. The complexity of the global business environment and the pace at which it changes require constant analysis, interpretation, and updating of standards. For example, the application of GAAP to the financial statements of an industrial products company will not necessarily be the same as the application of GAAP to the financial statements of an insurance company. To truly get a more granular look at the differences between the two, I recommend inquiring with admissions counselors and during information sessions for the specific programs you are interested in when you are visiting schools. Every program is unique - to really understand how each one works, it's best to go straight to the source. I hope this answer helps - good luck in selecting a program!

Regla’s Answer

The difference between a bachelor's in science vs bachelor's in arts is that bachelor's in science usually is given when you are focusing on majors that are science and math related; i.e. physics, biology, math nursing, computer science, engineering. Usually you also have to take more structured classes. A bachelor's in arts usually allows you to have a broader scope of course work that include humanities, English, art, music, and communications. Also, math you can receive a bachelor's of arts as well. That's what I have my bachelor's degree in.

Regla recommends the following next steps:

Look up the major you are seeking at the college/University you would like to attend and see the curriculum of classes for the degree you are seeking.

Linda’s Answer

Hi Rohit,

I received a bachelor's in Science (BS) in Audio Recording. My classes were half music and half Electrical Engineering. The degree was designed to give me skills to record music in a studio and live. I ended up not doing this in my career. However, the Engineering classes gave me a path to my current position. I would never have gotten the job if I didn't have the Engineering classes. The job pays more than other jobs in the arts. All that being said, I recommend you highly consider a job that you will love. If you have a job that you love, it won't feel like work.

Hi Rohit! I hold an MS in Accounting. My understanding of the difference between an arts and a sciences degree is based on the depth in which the program will go. A BS degree will require typically require more classes/ credits towards the major than a BA. I found this article helpful as well in explaining the differences.
