Why don't I see any women Architects?

I was watching a series on Netflix called " The World's Most Extraordinary Homes" and as the host of the show interviews these architects they are predominantly men that have sculpted these buildings. #architecture

Hi Kristina, if you just google Women Architects, there are many of them out there. Generally speaking, shows like Netflix is very subjective. They usually showed buildings that are popular and been features in Architecture/Interior magazine. They recently won all type of awards, or Just need to get notice. I'm sure you heard of Zaha Hadid. She started getting notices back in 2004 because she wons Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 2004. She received the UK's most prestigious architectural award, the Stirling Prize, in 2010 and 2011. She had an amazing eyes and creativity, that's why people loved her.

Jessica’s Answer

Hey Kristina,

I watched the show as well, it happens that they did not pick much houses that are designed by women architects, though there are many successful women architects. Zaha Hadid, for example, has managed to contribute in the disruption of the architecture world by taking part in the introduction of the deconstructivist movement.

I am sure, though, in the near future, we will be hearing much more about women architects.

I would suggest getting into a professional association such AIA or even visiting SEA (Structural Engineering Association) since you'll be working closely with structural engineers in your profession. I don't know if you are in University yet but if not these groups should be able to assist you in finding someone to talk to or do a job shadow with. If you are in University there are likely student groups on campus.
Thank you comment icon Hey Patricia, this is good information but doesn't directly answer the student's question around the lack of women architects Gurpreet Lally, Admin
