Tyrus’ Career Stories
What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?
To be honest, the best advice that I got (quite frankly still get) is the indirect advice that I get from watching others. I see people in my field, some doing the same jobs and some doing others, but I notice their dispositions, their demeanors, their temperaments and their attitudes. A lot of it has to do with their own personalities, but if there is something that I can take away from it and use to better myself and reach what I consider success for me, then I use it to work on myself to help me reach my goals. Someone once told me "if you want to be a better basketball player, you can't hang with hockey players." That didn't mean that I couldn't be around hockey players, but if I wanted to be good at what I was doing, I needed to surround myself with like minded people. To get what you consider to be success, watch what others that have that success have done/are doing and use those qualities and traits that they've indirectly "left out for you" to use and develop to better yourself and lead to your own success.
