About

I landed my first agency job in 1983. Three years later, the agency folded, and I became a freelance copywriter. Instead of trying to scare up my own clients, I promoted myself to advertising and design agencies because they already had the clients.

At JWT (now VML), I worked on the USMC and Orkin accounts. At Ogilvy, I worked on the International Hotel Group. At Mullen (Boston), I worked on Progress Energy.

Along the way, I drifted into writing annual report narratives (the glossy pages up front). So far, I’ve written more than 60. I also wrote and published The Writer’s Guide to Annual Reports.

Starting in 2001, I spent a couple of years as a VP/Creative Director at BBDO. Then went back to freelancing.

This time, I expanded internationally. My first client was Emirates Airline in Dubai. I wrote three of their annual reports narratives. That led to more annual report work in Singapore, Jakarta and Manila.

In 2014, I accepted an AVP/Senior Copywriter position at Goldmind Creative, Synchrony's in-house agency, where I continue to work on the brand and bank teams.
