Is changing your major normal or am I just overthinking college?

I am entering #college in the field of #engineering but unsure if it's safe to be changing my major all "willy-nilly". #college-major #career

Thank you comment icon Hey! So I'm a junior in college right now and I totally feel you. I would advise you to consider changing your major earlier rather than later because it can be difficult once you've already begun a certain track. Talk to an adviser or think about what you could do with the major you're working towards and compare that to what you're thinking about switching to. Best of luck! Ethan

Theodore:

For what it's worth, I agree with "erinn e.'s" advice, above. It is very common for a student to change majors. But try not to do this after your Sophomore Year, or you may be attending college for an extra year or two.

Cherelle’s Answer

Absolutely! I changed mine three times because I was on a path of discovery. It's always best to stick with a major that you're 100% certain about. Because my background is majority HR, that was my initial major but then I grew tired of HR and lost my interest in it so I decided to change it to marketing. At the time, the passion for marketing was there but didn't last long so I ended up changing my final major to general studies for my MBA. In doing this, I was able to select three electives which allowed me to take courses in a little of everything that I had an interest in and still have room to decide on where I wanted to take my career. Never keep a major because you intially chose it if you know for a fact that you no longer have an interest in it. It's totally fine to experiment. You'll never know for sure otherwise.

Shawn’s Answer

It is very normal.  Many people have an idea about what they want to do, but once they get into the details they see it is really not for them.  Find something that you like and go for it.  Also, make sure to check out that you will be able to make a living with what you love.  Best wishes.
