This should help
It's a great idea to start preparing for CLAT 2026 now, even while you're in 12th standard, but the key is balancing it with your board exam preparation.
1. **Start Early**: Begin with basic CLAT preparation alongside your 12th studies, focusing on subjects like English, Logical Reasoning, and Current Affairs. This will give you a head start without overwhelming you.
2. **Boards First**: Closer to your board exams, prioritize your board preparation. Afterward, shift your focus entirely to CLAT for intense prep.
3. **Time Management**: Make a realistic study schedule that allows you to prepare for both. Prioritize boards in the short term, but gradually increase your CLAT prep as the exams approach.
Starting now will give you a clear advantage, but remember to maintain a balanced approach so you don’t compromise on either your boards or CLAT prep.

Hi Gurleen,
It's great that you're thinking ahead! Given that you're only now proceeding to Grade 12, you have a few options to choose from:
1. Join weekend CLAT prep classes- There are several of these options in India which you can look up based on your city. These are online options too now, I believe. This would be a good way to get started by allocating the time that you can towards understanding the structure of the CLAT paper as well as the weightage of each section and recognizing your strengths and areas that need more development before you appear for CLAT in 2026.
2. Solve Mock Tests- These would be part of the curriculum of any of the CLAT classes that you join, however, in case you do not want to join any classes due to other commitments, you can still find CLAT preparatory books with mock tests that help you prepare with CLAT papers of the past years. This is another good way to recognize which sections come easy to you and which require more work and practice over the next year.
3. Read the newspaper regularly- This is a good way to stay ahead on both the GK as well as the English Language section. It is advisable to go through past CLAT papers in order to understand the nature and focus of the GK questions, so you know which news to focus more on. Eventually, GK closer to the CLAT exam will count more. However, reading the newspaper will generally acquaint you with topics you have not read before and help you develop your comprehension skills which end up saving time in the English Language section of the CLAT paper.
4. CLAT Crash Course after Grade 12- Along with the above options, you can always take an additional crash course - which are usually one month long - after your board exams, so as to freshen up on everything that you've worked towards right before the CLAT exam.
All in all, you have a little over one whole year before you give the CLAT exam in 2026 and it's always better to start thinking and preparing earlier if you can! It will also help to speak with your seniors in school who have appeared for CLAT in the last few years or plan for it this year.
Hope this helps. Wish you all the best!
Cheers,
Saumya
