Advice for extracurricular activities?

I am going to a four-year college in the fall, and I want to participate in extracurricular activities. I know it will look better on my college resume, and possibly open up the door for more scholarships However, I have panic disorder and am not very good around large groups of people. I am not a very athletic person, but I am good at art. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! #college #art #extracurriculars #scholarships

Participating in such activities related to your career area is very important for furthering your understanding of how you fit into various career areas and furthering your development in careers by developing networking connections with professionals who might share your interests.

Ken recommends the following next steps:

The first step is to take an interest and aptitude test and have it interpreted by your school counselor to see if and how you share the personality traits necessary to enter the field.
Next, when you have the results of the testing, talk to the person at your college who works with and tracks graduates to arrange to talk to, visit, and possibly shadow graduates doing what you think that you might want to do, so that you can get know what they are doing and how they got there. Michael’s Answer

Hi Caitlin,

Extracurricular activities are very important and it is great you are exploring them. A great role you could fit into would be a Teacher's Assistant. It looks great on a college resume` and it would not involve an overly large group. I would also recommend joining honor society's and clubs. It may help push you out of your comfort zone a bit and allow you to network. If you wanted to participate in sports, you certainly do not have to be athletic to do so. Intramural sports can be very very fun and a great way to make friends. So, give it a try!

Thanks,

Mike
