Hi Kierra

That’s a great career choice! After graduating with an accounting degree, here are some key steps to help you establish a strong foundation in your career:
• Apply for internships in accounting firms, corporate finance, or government agencies.
• If you want to work in public accounting, consider becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)—it’s highly valued and can open more opportunities.
• Gain proficiency in Excel.
• Learn about tax software and data analytics tools, which are increasingly used in the profession.
• Join professional organizations such as the AICPA, IMA, or local accounting societies.
• Attend networking events and connect with professionals on LinkedIn to explore career opportunities.
• Follow accounting news, tax law changes, and financial regulations.
• Continuing education is important, even after getting certified.

I hope this answers your question! :)

Passing the CPA exams is a fantastic achievement to highlight on your resume. To reach this goal, finding a job that gives you time to study for the exams can really help. Keep pushing forward, and you'll get there!

Jiaxin’s Answer

Hi Kierra, I would suggest that after graduation, start pursuing your CPA license. Once you begin working, it can be difficult to balance studying with the demands of your job due to the workload. That’s why I definitely recommend starting the CPA process as soon as you graduate. Additionally, having your CPA license can really help you stand out when applying for entry-level jobs!

Hi Kierra,

Now's the perfect time to start planning your future after college! Instead of just thinking about what's next, consider applying for an internship or part-time. These opportunities often lead to full-time offers once you graduate.

Even if a full-time offer doesn't come right away, you'll gain valuable real-world experience. This experience will help you discover what you truly enjoy in your career path. You've got this!

Gus’s Answer

Typically, after college you should 1) consider getting your CPA which certifies you as a certified public accountant and can lead to many job opportunities. You need experience to fully complete your CPA, so you should consider applying to entry level accounting or finance positions to gain experience on the job. Best of luck!

I would recommend the following:

Get an internship under your belt if you haven’t already done so. Big 4 internship experience is great!

Make sure to review your resume and fine tune it.

Make sure you’re on LinkedIn, Indeed, and similar platforms to stay up to date on job openings.

If you’re interested in becoming a CPA, you can also use any time off to study and sit for these exams because it becomes significantly harder to dedicate time to studying once your start working.
