Do I have to apply for merit-based and need-based scholarships Or are they awarded to me? ?
I am a senior in high school, and I keep wondering if I'm missing a deadline or if it is going to be awarded to me after I enroll.

To apply for both merit-based and need-based scholarships, you'll need to go through an application process. Some applications are easy, while others require more forms and information. Search for scholarships everywhere: at your church, local organizations, and the college or university you plan to attend. Each place will list their deadlines and requirements. Some scholarships may ask for recommendation letters, so it's a good idea to ask people early if they can write them for you. These letters should come from people who know you well and can talk about your character and how you are as a student.
Start looking for scholarships a year before you can apply. This way, you'll know the deadlines and what you need to submit. Besides recommendation letters, need-based scholarships might ask for financial information, like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Filling out the FAFSA early is important because it determines eligibility for federal grants, work-study funds, and low-interest student loans. States and colleges also use FAFSA data to offer their own financial aid, so completing it is very helpful.

Most scholarships (both merit- and need-based) require you to apply. Be sure to research and apply to all scholarships you're eligible for to increase your chances of receiving financial assistance.
