Good Day McKenna!

In Saint Petersburg, there are several options for acting education and training:

• St. Petersburg College offers a comprehensive theater program that includes acting, stage production, and costume design. They provide various courses and have strong community ties with local theater companies.
• Green Room Acting Studio provides professional acting classes in the area, including online Zoom classes for all ages. The studio has experienced instructors who have worked on major projects.
• Venue Theatre and Actor Studio is a non-profit organization that has been providing quality acting training since 1992, focusing on personal development and skill enhancement.

These institutions offer a range of programs and opportunities for aspiring actors in the Saint Petersburg area.

There is also Harvard! SEE https://tdm.fas.harvard.edu/
There is a method for increasing your Grade Point Average!

Harvard undergraduates have the opportunity to study and practice the performing arts through the recently launched Theater, Dance, & Media concentration; to benefit from the work of the American Repertory Theater – a world-class professional company in residence; and to create theater outside of the curriculum through more than a dozen student theatre organizations as well as projects initiated by individual students.

Hi McKenna,

What a great question! Finding the right college for acting is such a personal decision, and it's great that you're taking the time to weigh your options carefully.

Here are some tips that might help you make the best choice:

First and foremost, look for schools with strong acting programs. You'll want to find colleges or conservatories with robust theater departments that offer courses in acting, voice, and movement. It's important to check if they have experienced faculty and strong industry connections for internships and performances, as these can be invaluable for your career.

Cost is another crucial factor to consider. Acting programs can be quite expensive, so it's worth exploring scholarships, grants, and financial aid options. Public universities or smaller schools might have excellent programs at lower costs compared to more well-known institutions, so keep an open mind.

Location is also key. Schools in cities like New York or Los Angeles offer more theater opportunities, but smaller cities can have fantastic local theater scenes as well. Don't forget to consider the cost of living in these areas when making your decision.

If you're not quite ready for a big school, starting local might be a good option. Community colleges or local schools that offer theater programs can be a great steppingstone, and you can always transfer later to a bigger program. Staying involved in local productions can help you gain valuable experience.

While you're in school, make sure to network and get as much experience as possible. Participate in student films, local theater, and workshops. The more you network, the more opportunities you'll have to grow your skills and career.

Remember, the key is to find a program that fits your goals and budget, and to stay passionate and dedicated to improving your craft.

Good luck, and I hope you find the perfect school for your acting journey!

Hello, McKenna !

So you are thinking about Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA ? I would say go for it !

Very few programs at universities actually offer a Degree in Acting with most student actors majoring in Theatre or Film instead. But Liberty actually offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting ! I am happy to know this.

There are two theatres on campus that you would be performing in, the 640 seat Tower Theatre and the intimate house of the Black Box Theatre. There is also a film program there so maybe you can act in student films, too.

The scholarships offered from Liberty University, however, are for locals, students who attended high school in Virginia and residents (living in VA for more than12 months), so keep this in mind and double check with the college about any additional scholarships that may not be made public. There are, however, outside scholarships you can apply for that are for Acting Students. They are The Barrow Group, and The Kozakov Foundation Fellowship for Creatives.

There's another one that I advise looking into, but it's more than just a scholarship. Perhaps in your Senior Year of college. It is the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship. They give regional awards and select acting students to go for week-long, expenses-paid trips to Washington, D.C., for courses and auditions. And remember that you can also apply for non-Acting related scholarships and grants, too. Research the scholarships that are out there by doing a search online.

This is certainly a very great choice of colleges for your foundation in Acting. Keep in mind, you will have to take three bible study classes while you are there for your Bachelors Degree.

Best wishes and have a wonderful day !
