Is there a way for teachers to make more than their estimated salary?

As someone who aspires to pursue a teaching career, I have heard that teacher salaries are particularly low despite teachers being the ones who help build society. Are there any extra certifications or abilities that would help raise a teacher's salary?

Hello, Emma !

My advice is to start exploring the various venues and types of teaching that you can do. It doesn't always have to be in the public school system. I also want to emphasize that no one should really be generalizing to make you think that teachers salaries are low. When there's a passion to teach, you also know the right avenues to walk down. There's a whole big world out there in education and you don't need opinions about money, you need to foster that passion and that will guide you to the best opportunities.

Have you thought of teaching outside of the public school system ? That may be what people are saying are the low paying jobs, but there are other places and eventually other positions that you can be promoted to later on. It also depends on what environment you teach in, a large city, a suburb or rural area. If you are worried about the money before you even begin, consider moving to a large city after graduation from college, but do your research about it first.

Right now, you have options if you become a teacher in addition to the Public School System. There are private schools, online schools, charter schools, international schools, special education schools, Montessori Schools and home school curriculum providers. There's also tutoring, too. So if it's just that you want to work in the public school system, that's great, but there are some options if you're that worried about salary.

In South Carolina, it is required that you get your teaching license and certification. I am not sure if there are any specific certifications directly related to Education besides the teaching certificate (which is required), but you can always go for certifications in various subjects. Certifications are not what get you a high salary, however. You can just go on interviews and if the salary is acceptable to you you can take the job, if not you can decline the job, but you'll have to start somewhere, so try not to judge salaries for this right now. Many teachers have raised families and sent their children to college on teacher salaries.

I hope this can be a different point of view that will encourage you to follow through on a teaching career. Best wishes to you in all you do !

Teachers have the exciting opportunity to write books and share them on Amazon, reaching readers everywhere. They can also boost their income by offering fun and helpful tutorials to students outside their schools.
