How can high school students who are unsure on what to pursue find out what they should study for in college?

What I am looking for is methods in which students can determine what careers they may and may not be interested in

I would recommend for you to start off working your way from what interested you in elementary school recall class topics, specific memories, and discussion involvement. Ask yourself what you found challenging versus what provided you the best feedback in classroom engagement plus ignited your interest.

Intermediate school you can be a little critical and offer feedback to yourself be realistic on grading yourself for educational performance and social interaction in that stage and compare and contrast your high school outcome.

Most importantly, do not be so hard on judging yourself while studying your educational materials and especially portfolio. In high school notice which connections (teachers, students, & others) you formed and extracurricular activities you had that enhanced your personal development and concentration to perform better in school.

Last but not least, give yourself time to take a free Ikigai test on https://ikigaitest.com/. This would compile all your skills into an ideal career path. However, this may not be where you envision yourself. So, this is where you start to figure out which TV shows, scientific studies, or conversations you tend to feel more connected to and how you want to apply those skills into an occupation. Community college can help you explore and prepare before entering university. For example, trade school will allow you to specialize in a field like beauty or culinary arts if that is your "passion" (certain & elated about this line of work to become an expert).

Revisit this information a week later to follow up for your own convenience and personal to professional development. Happy browsing! Be patient with yourself.

Jane recommends the following next steps:

Assess & Collect Memories from Elementary School
Compare & Contrast Intermediate School & High School Performance
Review High School Portfolio
Complete Ikigai Test & Assess Skillset + Other Media

Laura’s Answer

I heard someone say that, rather than asking a student the question, "What do I want to be when you grow up?", ask, "What problem do you want to help solve?"
