Kudos to you for taking this step! Totally understand you being nervous, but you have already crossed the biggest hurdle in making the decision to enroll.
A few things to keep in mind:
1. You will be surrounded by younger students - do not be intimidated. You can feed off of their energy and they can learn from your real life experience!
2. Be patient with yourself but set clear goals (start with small goals that are easy & then progress from there)
3. Focus on your goals and take it at the pace that works for you.
4. Use all available resources that the community college provides, including office hours for any clarifications etc.
5. If this is a part time course, be sure to have a calendar with strict schedule so that you are balancing coursework and personal life.
6. Be open to learning theory and hands-on techniques.
7. Practice as much as you can.
Good luck on your journey!

First off, great job! Going back to school at 50 takes a lot of courage and shows how much you love life and believe in yourself. Many people dream of doing this but find it hard to start. Remember, age doesn't stop you from learning, and your life experience and clear goals are big strengths! Community colleges often have older students, and teachers usually appreciate the focus and responsibility adults bring. Try chatting with classmates before class; you might find friends who think like you. If you face tech issues, don't hesitate to ask for help from the school's tech support or younger classmates. Learning beauty isn't just about skills—it's about finding your creativity and new possibilities. You're building a career that will give you pride in the future, and every step you take is something to be proud of.

Hi Doris,
First of all, congratulations on taking this bold and beautiful step! It’s completely normal to feel nervous, but let me tell you: your age is not a barrier, it’s a strength. You’re bringing life experience, discipline, and maturity that will serve you well in school and in the beauty industry.
For a successful return, I'd advise you to stay open to learning, ask questions when you need help, and build relationships with classmates and instructors. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s because you’re building your own unique path. And remember, consistency matters more than perfection. Just keep showing up and giving your best.
I’ve seen people start new careers in their 50s, 60s, and beyond and thrive. You’ve got this, and I’m rooting for you every step of the way!
