Environmental Science major or Biology with a focus in natural science for ecology-based jobs?
I am an upcoming freshman at the University of Florida. Is environmental science or biology (with a focus on natural science) a better major to pursue to get a good ecology-based job with a good amount of Field work compared to office work? I also plan on getting my masters afterward. #Spring25

Hi Sean,
Ecology jobs typically offer a mix of fieldwork, lab work, and office tasks. The balance of these activities can vary based on the specific role and organization, providing a dynamic work experience. If you're considering a career in this field, I recommend exploring degrees in fish and wildlife. Additionally, taking a few communications classes can be beneficial. Courses in media relations, writing press releases and fact sheets, social media content, website content management systems, and software like Adobe Creative Cloud (think Photoshop and more) will equip you with essential skills. Since you'll often be required to communicate complex information to non-technical audiences and interact with the media, these skills will serve you well.
Best of luck on your journey!
