Where can I gain enough hands-on experience in child psychology before I graduate with my bachelor’s degree.

All I’ve found so far, are places that are out of state. Do you have any tips for finding and getting in contact with places local?

Hi Kylie,

If you have not done so already, I would talk to your school's career services office. They should be able to help you find opportunities. I would also speak with your professors to see if they know of any.

You can look into volunteering or working at places like:
Girl Scout's
Boys and Girls' Club
Big Brother/Big Sister
Girls on the Run
YMCA
All great places to get experience working with youth even though it is not directly psychology related it is somewhere you can put your skills to use.

Use LinkedIn and Indeed to also search for opportunities. Your school's career services should also have a job search site you can use!

I hope this helps!

Hi Kylie,
Great question! Non-profits are always a great option for gaining experience, and you have may local chapters that you can support. I recommend looking on United Way and researching mental health for local options. This could include local shelters, crisis helplines, etc. Good luck in your search.
