If I pursue a degree at a 2-year college, when transferring to a 4-year college is it possible to stay there for 4 years if you are playing sports? #Spring25
I am planning to attend a 2 year college to run track and field before transferring to a 4-year college. So, I wanted to know if it would be possible to stay there for 4 years or I would be done after 2 years although I am still eligible to run for 2 more years. #Spring25

When you transfer to a 4-year college, you usually start as a junior and spend about 2 more years finishing your degree. If you still have sports eligibility left (like 2 years), you can continue to compete. You wouldn’t stay at the 4-year school for 4 extra years—you’d stay just long enough to finish your degree and use your eligibility. Talk to the coach and athletic department early to make sure your eligibility and transfer credits are all set!

My son is looking to play college sports and I just heard that recently rules were changed so that student-athletes have five calendar years to compete in four seasons of NCAA athletics, with the eligibility clock starting when they first enroll full-time at any college, including a junior college. Hope this helps - good luck!
