Hello, Jacob !
I would be happy to orientate you to how the roles of Scholarships and Grants play a part in your College Education. They do not so much determine your future, rather enable college costs to be a bit lighter if you are awarded some.
Scholarships and Grants are awards of money that students can put towards tuition and college costs while enrolled at college. All Scholarships and Grants are good and to maximize your potential in receiving some, you would apply for all of the scholarships and grants that you qualify for as they are categorized by criteria. Students apply for them all and wait to hear back if they are chosen. Knowing the names of scholarships does not make one "best" and other scholarships not good, they are things you'd be chosen for and just applying for them is not a guarantee that you'd get any particular ones. But applying for as many as possible may perhaps increase your chances of receiving some. They are for when you are in college to pay for expenses. If they are of the prestigious sort, like the Fulbright or Rhodes, I would say that you could list them in your education heading on your resume as most people would know how prestigious those are.
As for the future, I wish I could truthfully tell you exactly what to do and how your future would be, but no one can tell you that. You must be interested in the present and your future will be a process of personal, intellectual and social growth. Just learn a lot, understand what you learn and understand how to apply it to whatever career you have chosen. Scholarships will not get you to any level, they just pay for college.
If you want to start looking for scholarships and grants, there are several places where you can look. Do a search for Scholarships and Grants online. Visit the college you will attend to ask about their specific scholarships at their college for enrolled students. Visit the financial aid office at your college, too. Meet with your High School Guidance Counselor and ask about any scholarships that they may know of. Visit your local Chamber of Commerce and ask, too. Go to the websites of businesses and organizations connected with the field of work you'll pursue, connected to your college Major because some companies and organizations offer scholarships for students to apply for if they will be going into a certain career. It's a lot of footwork and reading, but applying for all that you qualify for will increase the probability of getting some. To be updated on the information, return to their website or call the place to ask when the next application date is. Scholarships are also categorized by your college major, too. You will want to do a search online for scholarships connected to what you are studying and what your eventual career will be.
So take things one step at a time, think about the here and now and take the steps you need to prepare for college. You'll learn all you need to know to start your career while you are in college. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of everything !
