Should I be worried about living off-campus?
I'm a high school senior who is planning to attend the University of Florida, but the housing waitlist has filled up. Off-campus housing available does not necessarily seem too bad, but I'm still a little bit nervous.

It's ok to be a bit nervous about taking a major step in your life. Think about all the positives that are ahead of you and what you will gain from these new experiences. With a positive, flexible and helpful attitude, you are sure to gain new friends. I'm sure you know you are fortunate to be going to college and will enjoy many good times as well as gain many skills.

Hi Dylan,
Congratulations!! UF is a lovely, highly-ranked university. Many universities require students to stay on campus for the first 1 or 2 years. If that is not possible, housing off campus is the only possibility, I guess. Is there any accommodation off campus but owned or managed by the university? Or any "preferred" accommodation?
If you are on your own, consider living with roommates. You'll get better value while saving on rent. Living close to campus might be difficult to find or very expensive (or very run-down with a slum lord). Living further away means you might need a car. If that is not a problem, go for it. At least you'll get to class early because there is no parking if you arrive after 7 am. Also, it will be less likely that you stumble into a pond with alligators at night.
I hope this helps! All the best to you! You got this!
