IVETTE’s Answer

An internship can be helpful in several ways. Firstly, it will aid in expanding your mindset by working with different personalities, learning new methods, and meeting people from various cities, countries, and cultures. This exposure will broaden your perspective and better prepare you for the real world, which cannot be fully taught in school.
Additionally, companies value candidates with prior experience and this positions you more favorably compared to other students applying for the same role. Having this experience increases your chances of securing a job and allows you to adapt to the business world more effectively once employed.

Nandhini’s Answer

Internships offer a chance to see how what you learn in class works in the real world. In cybersecurity, which is a big field, internships help you find out what interests you most and pick a career path that fits your skills and passions. Take the initiative to learn how the organization handles security, see how it differs from standard practices, and understand why those differences exist. This experience can be very rewarding, giving you a deeper understanding of how a company guards against threats. It can also boost your chances of getting hired there or landing your dream job elsewhere.

Sophie’s Answer

An internship is a great chance to learn and grow. You can gain valuable work experience, learn new things, and make important connections. Building a network is especially important. To do this, introduce yourself to your colleagues, not just those you work closely with. Be curious about their roles and ask for advice if you think they can help you. After the internship, try to keep in touch with a few people to maintain positive relationships.

BALASAHEB’s Answer

Yes, you have a strong chance of getting a new job if you finish the internships. You also have a good chance of being hired by the same company if you perform well and they appreciate your skills and knowledge. There have been many cases in the past where people were hired by the same company with a great salary.

Heather’s Answer

Internships are a great opportunity to get hands on skills and working experience plus the ability to network and meet people who could be influential in your ability to gain employment after the internship. I have worked with multiple teams that hired interns and they go in hoping that people who intern will transition into full time roles, if they are available. It's a great path into an organization that you're interested in and will help you stand out even if you aren't immediately hired.

My recommendation is while you're there do what you can to meet new people and cultivate those relationships. Build your LinkedIn presence so you can stay connected to people beyond the internship because you never know when someone you meet in your internship may be someone who's a hiring manager for a role you're interested in down the road. See if the company has things like fun channels on Slack/Teams, employee resource groups, or other networking/learning opportunities. This will expand your ability to connect with people beyond your team.

Cybersecurity is such a great field right now because it's so in demand so I'd say to make sure you establish practices early to make sure you stay up to date on the latest information in the space you want to work in. That could be listening to podcasts, following newsletters of thought leaders, and creating an ongoing learning practice. Cyber is not a space where you can finish school and slow down on learning. To stay competitive, and to ensure you don't burn out, having ways that you like to learn and stay connected to what's relevant will be a lifelong skill you'll be able to use.

Finally, the question about the company offering you a role after the internship truly depends on your fit with the role and the company. Make sure you're doing top quality work, collaborate with the team in ways that work for them, be proactive - don't wait around for work to be delegated seek out opportunities to be helpful, and ask questions along the way. I hope this is helpful and best of luck to you!
