Apps: iBiome - Ocean Lite for interactive food webs, and Explorium: Ocean for Kids for a quest-based learning experience.
Degree: No, you don't need a doctor's degree to be a marine biologist, but a bachelor's in Marine Biology or a related field is generally required, and a master's degree is often preferred.
Marine biology programs offered at various universities in the USA. Some top schools are in California and Florida.
1. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
2. Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech)
3. California State University, Long Beach
4. Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science at the University of Miami
Other Universities are: Boston University, Eckerd College, Northeastern University, The University of Tampa, and California State University, Monterey Bay. Tip: Do you want to go to a university near Pacific or Atlantic ocean?

Hi August, I love your enthusiasm for marine biology! I'm sure there are some trained biologists who can point you to better resources, but one website I love is iNaturalist.com - it isn't specific to marine biology, but it's a great site for plant, insect, and bird identification and community science. Even if you don't find much aquatic life, I'm sure you can find a lot of interesting information about coastal wildlife. I can't answer if it's blocked or unblocked - I believe that depends on the settings set by your parents or school administration (if using a school laptop). If a resource you want to access is blocked, you could try politely requesting that the site be reviewed and if deemed appropriate, would it be possible to have that site unblocked?

As far as being a doctor, you do not need a PhD to be a marine biologist. If you are interested in teaching, leading or pursuing research independently it is recommended. The good news is, you don't need to wait until you have your PhD to get into the field! A bachelor's degree will open doors to many entry-level roles in research and fieldwork that will help you get some practical experience and learn more about what areas interest you most. You can decide as you work how much education will be useful to your career goals.

Before you start secondary & post-secondary education, you can also find volunteer opportunities in your area to get hands on experience. Your parents/guardians/teachers can also help you connect with people in the field so you can ask them questions about their education, work experience, and advice for young people interested in their work.

I can't vouch 100% for these sites because I haven't used them but there are some good lists of kid-friendly marine bio resources at https://www.marinebio.org/kids/ and https://www.amnh.org/explore/ology/marine-biology . Sea Smart also as some paid courses, though their Species at Risk program (recommended for grades 3-8) is currently free!

I hope this helps, good luck on your marine adventures!
