What are cons of being a marine biologist??

I’m thinking about being one and it looks really fun, but I don’t know what bad things are about it

Ultimately, the answer rests with your judgement, but some potential con's often mentioned are:
- Salary typically isn't high, especially with government and non-profit's
- Work is outside, even in extreme weather, and can be on rough seas
- Jobs can involve grants or contract positions, which may not be renewed

It can be a great job, but there are some real downsides:

Pay is often low compared to other science careers
Jobs can be competitive and hard to find
A lot of time is spent on data, labs, or paperwork (not just the ocean)
Fieldwork can be physically tough (cold water, long hours, travel)
You may need higher education for better opportunities

Basically: it’s fun and meaningful work, but not always easy or well-paid....

Hello Owen:
The cons of being a marine biologist are listed.
1. May have to work on a boat in the ocean for a significant amount of time. Could become sea-sick while on the boat.
2. May have to work away from home (and family) for long time periods.
3. May have to seek additional education beyond a Bachelor of Science degree to be competitive in the job market.
