What do I need to know before joining the United States Marine Corps as a Military POLICE OFFICER?
I am 18 years old, and I plan to join the United States Marines after taking the ASVAB in September. What advice do you have for me before I join in late September or early October?

To get the best insights about the military, talk to people who are currently serving or have served. They can provide honest and accurate information about what to expect. Recruiters can also help, but they might not always give the full picture. If you live near a military base, consider visiting the area. You can't go inside, but you can talk to the military police at the gates. They are often willing to share their experiences. You can also meet military personnel at local hangouts and start a conversation.
Begin preparing physically by jogging and making fitness a daily habit. There's no need to practice shooting; the military will train you. Good luck!

Hi Amie,
Great job on considering a future in the military! When I first thought about joining, I was also interested in becoming a Military Police Officer with the Marine Corps.
I suggest taking a closer look at your enlistment contract. Check out the different Military Occupation Specialties (MOS) listed there. It's a good idea to talk to your recruiter and do some online research to understand your chances of becoming a Military Police Officer or being assigned to another MOS.
When I reviewed my Marine Corps contract, I noticed I could end up as a mechanic, which wasn't what I wanted. So, I chose the Army, where my job was guaranteed as long as I passed the MOS school. I never regretted that decision and had a wonderful career.
