What does the job market look like for a potential future biology/ecology researcher or professor ?
I am currently a college freshman at Gustavus Adolphus and I hope to some day be in the field researching or in a classroom teaching on the collegiate level in biology or ecology. However, I worry about how the job market will look for those positions in ~6 years.

There will likely continue to be Universities that need professors but enrollment has been declining so there maybe fewer positions. It will also depend on how much the Federal and State governments fund research. Right now, funding has been cut significantly and that will effect number and types of Researcher positions.
So you may want to consider areas that are more privately funded like biomedical research. https://research.com/careers/careers-for-biology-majors-that-pay-well has a list of careers for Bio majors. https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/explore-careers/get-started/career-paths-for-popular-majors/10-jobs-biology-majors list alternative jobs for Biology Majors.
