Paul’s Answer

The first thing to consider is the overall program. Make sure they offer both undergraduate and graduate programs. I would go for a university that has a 4+1 program in order to obtain a MBA quicker. The school should offer internships. If you have plans to go into international finance you should consider universities that have study abroad programs. You should look at the profiles for professors you might be taking classes from, they should have their CV online. For business and law professors in particular I would recommend make sure they have industry experience.

Paul recommends the following next steps:

Research your potential colleges online.

George’s Answer

Think about the cost. Many people I work with early in their careers regret having so much student loan debt. This debt can weigh you down for many years, sometimes even decades.

Starting at a community college is often a smart choice. Tuition is cheaper, classes are smaller, and you get more time with teachers. You can also live at home and work part-time, which helps save money.

After that, transfer to a state college that offers the best program for your interests.

Apurva’s Answer

First of all, congratulate yourself for getting to this point in life. You are closing an important chapter in life and taking with you many memories that you will cherish forever.

When looking at colleges to study Finance there are several things you need to consider. It is critical to remember that what works for others, may not work for you. One thing I've always done in life when facing big decisions is making a table of positives/negatives of the choices. In your case, if you are deciding between 3-4 universities - write down the positives and negatives for each university. This will help in making your decision clearer.

Now, for tactical advice. Look at university rankings, specific curriculum, real world internships for students, culture of the university, and what companies recruit from that university.

Lastly, look for which universities specialize in your field of interest. If you want to study corporate tax, research which university has a good program for your area of interest.

Remember to breathe and enjoy this process. There are many successful professionals that come from different kinds of universities.
Good luck!
