Clark Atlanta University
Freshman Business Administration Major with a Concentration in Finance and Financial Planning; Minor in Accounting.
My favorite classes are Honors English Composition and both of my math classes. I like to sleep, watch tv, and spend time with both family and friends. During college I plan to start my own clothing business and I also plan to start looking into real estate classes. Furthermore, I plan to help my mother with her business as she is currently looking into the business of being a Medical Courier. After college I plan on finding a roll or job where I can use my skills that I obtained during college.

Communication is huge. You have to be able to explain things clearly, whether you’re talking to your team, clients, or upper management. Problem-solving and critical thinking are also really important because things change fast in business, and you need to be able to adapt and figure out solutions on the fly.
Being comfortable with technology is a must now too. There are always new tools and platforms coming out, so being open to learning and not getting overwhelmed by tech is key.
And don’t overlook the “people” side—teamwork, leadership, and networking go a long way. Building relationships and knowing how to work with different personalities can set you apart. Also, having a strong sense of ethics and being trustworthy is more important than ever.
Basically, it’s about being adaptable, staying curious, and always looking for ways to improve—those are the things that really help you succeed in business and finance today.

People skills are also very important. Being able to communicate well, work with others, and build relationships can help you stand out. You enjoy spending time with family and friends, which already shows that you know how to connect with people. In business, these skills can help you network, work well in teams, and understand customer needs.
Since you plan to start your own clothing line and explore real estate, having an entrepreneurial mindset is also important. This means being creative, solving problems, staying positive through challenges, and being willing to learn new things. The business world changes fast, so the ability to adapt and grow is extremely valuable.
Additionally, time management and self-discipline are essential. In college, you will be balancing classes, hobbies like sleeping and watching TV, and your business goals. Learning how to manage your time now will help you stay organized and successful later. After college, when you begin your career, employers and clients will appreciate your ability to handle responsibilities and complete tasks on time.
Wishing you all the best.

One thing that definitely makes a difference is the industry you start in. If you want broad exposure and a structured way to learn a variety of skills, an accounting firm is still one of the best places to begin your career.
Also, if you can connect what you’ve learned from running your own business or helping with your parents’ business into a coherent story, that experience can become a strong foundation for your career. It shows initiative and real-world understanding, which employers value a lot.
