What’s the best part and the hardest part of being a chiropractor?
I am currently a senior in high school. I plan to get an undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, then complete the Doctor of Chiropractic program at Parker University in Dallas, Texas.

Yes, the nervous system rules, but remember the endocrine system also sends messages too, just slowly.
To answer your question, the best part is watching the patients respond, sometimes with almost unbelievable results, often before they leave the office.
The worst part is the pay if you are an associate. I'm just a clinical guy, so its a salary, plus bonus. The pay isn't great. I'll make $85k this year. My ex-wife, an internest MD, had a base salary of $ 180k. Related, chiros would do better in the future if they stopped believing in and saying weird, nonesense things. Like homeopathy, weird muscle testing, so many "techniques," etc. Stick to evidence, rational thought. If you want to do spinal manipulation, become a DO.

Hi Emma,
Being a chiropractor is extremely rewarding. You get to meet and work with patients that you grow to enjoy and love. Seeing their process of healing is just amazing. Chiropractic is one of the few healthcare routes to go where you get to have a personal relationship with patients and you get the chance to see their progress right before your eyes! The best part about being a chiropractor is using your knowledge to help people heal (naturally!). You will have worked hard to obtain your education, and even the simplest things that people complain about like carpal tunnel, back pain, etc. you will have an answer for them!
The hardest part about being a chiropractor in my opinion, would be learning to navigate becoming a leader. You are in charge, and you are the one people/patients are coming to for help. You must learn how to guide the appointment, when to stop care, when to refer, when/if to discharge a patient from your care, etc. For me, I feel like this process of learning to be a leader never ends. In my opinion this is the hardest part, however, the better doctor you become while working through the challenges.
One thing I would also like to add is this: Chiropractic is a healing art. No matter what kind of chiropractor you become (there are many different types), to become a good chiropractor, you must understand that the nervous system is the supreme system for the whole body, and as a chiropractor you are working directly with the nervous system. Research it, learn it, know it, believe it. The body is one piece coordinated together by the nervous system.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your schooling and God Bless!
