Robin’s Answer

The BSN is a bachelor degree in nursing which is a 4 year degree program. There is also an associate degree in nursing. You can then take an RN to BSN program after graduation. One could also be an RN but get a bachelor degree in something else but then you would not be able to get an advanced degree in nursing without having a BSN.

Ann’s Answer

I’m not sure I 100% understand the question but a BSN is just that-a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Someone may graduate with a bachelor’s degree in another field and decide to go into nursing. They’d then have to go through an accelerated program to get a bachelor’s degree in nursing. In order to become an RN, however, you need to do the schooling, pass the NCLEX-RN exam, and get licensed through your state. So, one could have a BSN but not be an RN if they didn’t pass the test (or didn’t take the test) and get licensed. Hope that answers your question!
